How do I add an external camera to iMovie (MacBook Air 2020)?

I have bought a MacBook Air 2020 (intel core) and am extremely disappointed with the video recording quality. That's why I'm now trying to find external solutions for iMovie recordings, e.g. with the external camera from logitubo.


However, I now have the problem that iMovie does not display this camera or want to use the recordings (compared to Facebook Live, where I can use the external camera).


What can I do?

An external camera cannot be used to record directly into iMovie.  Assuming that your camera can be read by your Mac, it can be used to record to the QuickTime App on your Mac.  Plug in your camera to your Mac and open QuickTimePlayer. Use QuickTime’s "Record New Movie" feature from the File menu item to activate and recognize the camera as an external camera. Here’s a link that explains how to use the feature:
