M1 Mac synced with iPhone/iPad

iPhone/iPad connected to M1 Mac mini, iPhone/iPad apps cannot be used and installed from app store, I tried re-install iPhone/iPad OS, reset all, it does not work. iPhone/iPad cannot install apps from App Store even the Apple store/Apple support app. and app installed on iPhone/iPad cannot be used. This happens when iPhone/iPad connected to M1 Mac, then click "get started" on "Mac finder-locations-iPhone/iPad interface".

There are several threads on this problem. This seems to be the latest, but I have one observation to make that I have not seen elsewhere which leads me to think that the trust permission allows the M1 Mac to do something unfortunate with the App store on the iPhone, rather than the apps themselves.

I noticed when my M1 MB Pro (11.1) and an iPhone XS (14.3) went through the trust process for the first time when I was syncing music, the App store stopped working properly. The offered updates to some apps commenced, seemed to complete then was reset as available. This was stuck in a cycle. Those apps that had finished updating would not launch. Apps which had not been updated continued to work normally.

This only happened after permission was granted for the phone and M1 Mac to trust each other. Prior to that moment the App store on the phone was working perfectly, happily offering and completing updates to apps that were perfectly well behaved after being updated.

My conclusion was that the M1 Mac was interfering with the App store app on the iPhone which in turn was corrupting the apps it was working with.

I erased and restored the phone from an iCloud backup and added the music content from the Music library which I had copied over to an Intel Mac to sync it to the iPhone. The XS had no contact with the M1 Mac. When all this was completed the phone was working perfectly again; the apps which had failed to launch were launching and usable.

Other posters have commented that Apple is working on this problem but for now the XS isn't going near the M1 Mac.

FWIW, I had updated my M1 MacBook Air on 12/14 to macOS 11.1.

On 12/17, backed up, synced, and then downloaded and installed

iOS 14.3 on my iPhone 11 Pro all via USB connected to my M1

MacBook Air and all went smooth and have seen no such issues

with apps opening. Also, even before that, syncing and downloading

apps while connected to the M1 MBA did not create any issues.

It doesn't fix your situations but just relaying my experience and

a sequence of events. Perhaps the sequence of upgrade events

that you may have done might have had some effect?

I got a m1 and a iphone 12 mini - nothing but sync problems...

Dear Apple, what you doin here?

You ever thought about the pricing your products compared to what you get.

i feel all get more complicated every year...... but okay..

For me, not even the photo import is working - 12 is on the mac and nothing happens, it tages ages "import preparing"

That was faster on my MBP2010 - i dont understand!?

Thats small things that just have to work....

Really frustrated, Photos is such a strange program, and even in 2020 its not working..

Hello all, Ive been dealing with this problem since 12/7 when I did my first sync to my new Mac Mini M1. Software is Big Sur 11.1 using iPhone 11 Pro Max iOS 14.3. My wife updated her phone first, it's an iPhone 8Plus that had absolutely no storage, so we just moved everything onto the mac and updated to the newest version 14.3. My phone was synced mere minutes afterward. I don't have any issues with Apps crashing, but I am unable to install new apps or update existing apps. I have tried every solution that everyone on the community has tried to no avail. I just haven't contacted Apple Support yet. Will be watching like a hawk for Mac and iPhone updates, or a solution.

Thanks,

iCloud syncing works for the majority of use cases, but there are still cases where you need to sync with the Mac.

If you don't have an Apple Music subscription, there is no convenient way to get your iTunes library onto your device without syncing.

If you're a developer, you need to be able to connect to your Mac to get your apps on your device for debugging.

If you don't have a large iCloud Storage subscription, you may want to sync to get your photos off your iPhone and onto your Mac. Same for taking backups of your device.

iCloud is a great workaround, but it doesn't fully solve the problem.

I like the Dido song "Life for rent"! Listen to it for the content. I Like to own the music and media the music is on! I don't stream music. Apple Microsoft, spotify, Pandora.Amazon and many others want to force you to stream from them at a charge of course. I buy Music CDs and transfer to FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec.). It is a lossless Media, Much better than mp3 which looses some fidelity. When you rent an apartment you are loosing money when compared to buying a Condo or Co-op apt. The cloud is similar also. The cloud flourished just as Hard drives became cheap. Store the music you buy on Hard drives, SSDs or USB sticks or your phone with Carplay or your cars infotainment system.

I was wondering if it might be something with our Apple ID's. Others have reported that everything works without issue using the same software and devices. I did try syncing with a new account on the Mac that was not logged in to an Apple ID, but the phone was logged in on my Apple ID, and the Mac was logged in as well but on another local account...

I'll see if I can test this on my devices. I'll also mention it to my advisor when I have my next call.

Have not yet tried 14.4 (waiting for Big Sur 11.2 as support suggested). I can confirm that I'm seeing the same regarding the devices though. All my devices are listed correctly on appleid.apple.com, but my M1 Mac is not listed on iCloud.com under "Account Settings".

As I mentioned above, I did create a second Apple ID which is working. If I look on iCloud.com under that ID, the M1 Mac is showing up. So perhaps that is part of the cause?

That is so frustrating! I'm having the same issues with the devices of a good friend. When I called Apple Support last week, the lady said, the problem is completely new to her and that she hasn't found anything in the database.

Therefore I hope, that the communities effort and publications on 9to5mac help solving the problem. I will stay tuned and already say thank you to everyone on touch with Apple Support.
