wired connection and homepods

I have an Apple TV 4K wired into a network switch which is attached to my modem. My eero gateway is directly connected to the same modem. With my ATV wired into the modem, I cannot get AirPlay to work. My HomePods will not connect to the ATV as default audio in this configuration. What can I do to get this working? Ideally I want to stay connected to the modem due to the gigabit speeds I can attain.

HomePods need to be on wifi and on the same home wifi network as the ATV.

The homepods are on the same network as my phone and when the ATV is wired, I can’t airplay from any iOS device either.

HomePods on same wifi network as your Apple TV.
