Is my Iwatch cellular capable?

I bought an Iwatch for my wife. Series 6. The box has GPS on the side. However, I want the watch to be both GPS and Cellular capable. How can I tell if what I bought is both?

If I do not activate the cellular capabilities, will the watch operate just fine as a GPS only model? The version with celluar will have a red ring or a large red spot on the side of the digital crown.
