Wireless Apple Carplay Kia Rio 2020

Drove a brand new 2020 Kia Rio GT Line off the showroom floor yesterday and connected to the Wireless Apple Carplay, only to have it keep popping up with a message on the screen saying "Phone is not responding. Please reconnect it and try again" every 5-10 mins sometimes more often. Have tried it on an iPhone 12 Pro Max as well as an iPhone 11 with the same error message popping up. Done some research and seems a lot of people are having the same issue, so i've tried resetting both the phone and the car settings just to connect it up and have the exact same issue. Has anyone found a solution to this?

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 14

I have a 2020 Kia Rio , with same problem . Kia dealership have said its an apple update problem , Kia are trying to get recent update to align with the apple update to reset navigation system in car.

They also suggested at this time to not use bluetooth connection , try using lightening cable (genuine Apple Cable only).

This is working for me at present , once navigation is set , the visual sign (not connected ) pops up maybe 2 times upon first driving off to the set navigation , then it works , voice and can see visual directions of maps.

Maybe try this until Kia can sort out problem .

No, dealer said Kia has not got update to fix problem of the Apple update on phone. Suggested to use cable not bluetooth , to see if that helps .

it is mostly working with a few hiccups daily , the sign pops up but after a few Kms it works ok for the destination that it was set for.

My dealer is saying Kia has not got the current update for the navigation system , and they are working on it , and to keep checking in with them .

I am Adelaide . SA

urbancynic,

We appreciate you trying those steps out.

Next, we would recommend performing the following:

  • Forget the stereo from your iPhone under Settings > General > CarPlay > [stereo name].
  • Forget the iPhone from the stereo settings (see the stereo user guide for instructions).
  • Rename the iPhone in Settings > General > About > Name.
  • Reset network settings on the iPhone under Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Keep in mind, this also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

If this continues to occur after following those steps, then reach out to Apple Support here:

Cheers!

This is a major and dangerous problem. The constant error message is going to cause a wreck. Kia motors says it’s something to do with an update from Apple this Fall.

I took my new Kia K5 into dealership. They tried everything but ultimately Said they need an update from Apple to fix the CarPlay issue.

please apple! I don’t feel comfortable even driving my car. androids are not having the issue with the same Kia system. Only iPhones!

Hi MichelleT18,

Thanks for sending this through, unfortunately it is no help, after going through the link and trying all the suggestions the problem still persists. The phone connects to Apple Carplay no problems, but disconnects every minute or so coming up with the message "Phone is not responding. Please reconnect it and try again"

My phone is updated to the most recent update and have restarted everything multiple times
