How do I remove the TotalSearchFunction extension from my browser?

How do I remove the TotalSearchFunction extension from my browser? I think this is a malware. It has screwed up with my browsers, Chrome and Safari.

Browser Protection Does anyone know of a grosser protection so when I do a search it will show a check mark in green letting me know its safe to click on like I used to use Bit Defender Traffic app. Since they update to Safari and took away the extension I no longer have it. Is ProType a malicious Chrome browser extension? A browser extension called ProType that I did not install and does not come from the Chrome Extension store seems to be overriding my default search engine on Chrome. It seems to be forcing Yahoo rather than allowing Google. It doesn't have the standard Remove button and can't be turned off. It won't allow me to change my default browser back to Chrome. Am baffled. Am searching online and in support forums, but no luck so far. Thanks in advance.

Unwanted pop-ups I participated in an online chat session with my doctor last week and in the course of setting up for the appointment some malware (or something like it) was downloaded as an extension into Chrome. It is called "pdfconverterguru." Has anyone heard of this and know how I can get it off my extensions? I have tried blocking on pop-ups in Chrome settings and it doesn't work. Thank you.

Thank you, dominic23 for your email. This was super helpful.

I could only delete the Profiles. None of the other actions I could do. My primary browser is Google Chrome and I tried removing Total Search Function extension but it doesn't allow me to delete the extension. I also did not want to download Malwarebyte because a) I don't want to download something that is not Apple 'approved' and b) your instructions are for Safari and as I mentioned it is not something I use daily.

So basically my problem hasn't gone away. If you have any suggestions specific for Google chrome or anything else that I can do. I want to get rid of this **** extension. I can hardly use my Mac, I'm so ****** with the search engine.

Go step by step and test.

1. Remove unknown profiles if present.

System Preferences > Profiles

Open System Preferences, select “General and click the “Profiles” icon ( a checkmark on a gear) .

When Profiles pane opens, select the unknown profile and click the minus button at the bottom.

2. Remove unknown extensions: Safari > Preferences > Extensions

3. Check for adware.

Run the latest release of Malwarebytes for Mac to remove malware/adware, if installed on your Mac.

For instructions: Install Malwarebytes for Mac v4 Uninstall Malwarebytes for Mac

Click the “Scan Now” button. Once done, quit Malwarebytes for Mac.

Restart the computer and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

Scan for Malware again.

Additional steps if necessary.

4. Reset search engine: https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/customize-your-search-ibrwe75c2a3c/mac

5. Reset Homepage. https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/set-your-homepage-ibrw1020/mac

6. Check proxies. SOCKS?

System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies

Deselect any proxies if selected.

7. Restart the Mac. Relaunch Safari holding the Shift key down.
