Inconsistent step counter

Has anyone come up with a solution for inaccuracies of the step counter? The same route can vary by over 2000 steps (20%!) I realized I was under my 10k goal and decided to count up steps as I headed towards the goal. 42 strides were registered as 4 steps. Using a 12 mini and an Xs. Generally they’re close in count to each other

Hello SantJordi,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand the concern with the inconsistency in the steps counter data, and w'd be happy to look into this with you.

Just to clarify, are you experiencing this issue with the built-in Health app on your iPhone, or a third-party app counting your steps?

To get started, let's make sure your iPhone is up-to-date on software. When you navigate to: Settings > General > Software Update do you see any available updates? If so, please back up your iPhone, then update as explained in the following links:

Also, check out these helpful links:

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

Hello SantJordi,

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. It looks like the same distance is measured differently on the Health app. Accuracy is very important, and we'd be happy to look into this with you.

"The Health app takes similar data from different sources, like steps recorded from your iPhone and activity from your Apple Watch, and organizes it based on where it comes from. By default, Health prioritizes data in this order:

Health data that you enter manually.

Data from your iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple Watch.

Data from apps and Bluetooth devices.

When you add a new data source, it appears above all other apps and devices that contribute data in Health. You can change the order of sources at any time. "

Manage Health data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch

If you're using an Apple Watch, let's try the steps in the following link:

Message us back with your result. Kind regards.

It's the health app. The same distance can register wildly different distances. One day a hill is 8 flights of stairs, the next day 6 and a third day none. distances are equally off. Similarly, the same walk can vary by as much as 2000 steps (9k-11k). The counter bears no relationship to what I count when I actually try and count myself. I have two iphones and I find the same issue across both
