iPhone 12 Pro Max Touchscreen Sensitivity Issues

Hi, I just received my iPhone 12 Pro Max and enjoying it. I have noticed that the touchscreen is not as responsive as my previous Galaxy S10, I find that sometimes I have to touch twice as if the first touch is not detected but then it works flawless after the second touch. This happened frequently. I have read that some users are experiencing the same issue on other forums however I have read it was with previous IOS variants, 14.2. I have a glass screen protector from a reputable company and have not read any others having issues with a screen protector. Has anyone else experience their iPhone 12 Pro Max with touchscreen issues. With COVID happening and our city locked down, it will be hard to get the phone checked by an Apple store. Hoping it’s possibly a software issue. Thanks.

Hi,

I have the noticed the same behavior you’re describing, but I think I have it nailed down. The phenomenon mostly happens when the animation from your last action hasn’t fully run its course and you try following it up quickly with another action. For example, if you pull down spotlight search immediately after unlocking your phone and tap on one of the icons under Siri suggestions; the app doesn’t launch until you tap on it a couple times. Alternatively, if you were to wait a second after pulling down spotlight search before tapping on the app icon it responds to the first tap. I compared this behavior to a couple other devices and found it to be reproducible there as well.

Re screen protectors, despite what everyone says they do diminish touch sensitivity, especially the tempered glass ones. The difference, however, is negligible and so it shouldn’t cause an issue in day to day use, but sometimes can mean that some very light taps would go unregistered.

In the end, I believe the issue is largely due to iOS’ affinity for long, drawn out animations that look pretty and give the illusion of a smoother user experience. If you want added peace of mind, I’d suggest comparing it to a display model at your local apple store/Bestbuy, etc to confirm yours isn’t doing something that isn’t reproducible elsewhere.

I have the same issue like yours since day 1 of using my 12 pro and some app buttons at the tight/small place is way harder to touch. I have to press it carefully, precisely and for a few times in order to get it works.

& I also have compared with my friend's 11 pro that comes with the glass protector as well but hers is better than mine so I have no idea what is happening here.

I can't even play asphalt effectively due to missing so much button while playing it so I play back more frequent on my S20 phone. never experience this issue with my previous phone either with glass or gel protector.

I did walk in to authorize repair center on day 3 but they offered to send to repair instead of new set replacement so I refuse and keep using this one till present. Planning to remove my glass protector and see how later. anyway it will cost me to remove that expensive glass protector.

So I will let u know later bro on my outcome.

I have been having the same problems as well. It is intermittent where you go to type and it just wont work or it will press the key to the left or the right. I was in the bank today and I just wanted to open an email to get some info and I couldn't even open an email! Apple has replaced the phone once already and the replacement they sent is doing the exact same thing! They are sending me a third phone so hopefully they get it figured out. I'm getting really frustrated because I lose almost a full day of my time everytime this happens between troubleshooting with apple, getting the replacement shipped, scheduling the pickup then restoring the phone data. This may be the last iPhone I buy. It seems like apple pushed the development through too fast and didn't do proper testing. Very disappointing when you pay a premium price you should receive a premium product that functions as advertised. I guarantee apple will not compensate me for the 3 days of my time now lost due this recurring problem.

Same issues.

day 1: phone has issues with clicking in-app options closure, small items. Example is clicking a small “x” to close a sub menu.

day now: same issues having to click small spaces up to 10+ times to close or select.

History: Upgraded from a 6+ (non-s model) to this 12 Pro Max only to find these sensitivity issues. My 6+ literally has a major screen break and after testing(even using the huge crack) the 6+ still responds immediately whereas this 12 Pro Max with 5 nanometer technology, cannot compare.

Very disappointing.
