Big Sur 11.1 4K monitor resolution settings gone since update

Updated to 11.1 on my 16 inch MacBook Pro two days ago, ever since I can no longer run my LG 4K monitor at anything above 720p/1024x768.

Have reset SMC & PRAM. Have also OPTION + Click scaled for more options - no dice.

On a google search quite a few other people reporting this issues (also with previous beta versions of Big Sur).

My last option is reinstall macos, which I really don't want to do this is a bad time for this to have happened a lot of work on hunched over a laptop screen cursing the aches! I'm too old for this crap :)

So wondering...

Is there a known fix for this?

Is this a known problem (I can't find anything on these forums when I search)

If this is a known issue, is there a fix incoming from apple?

Thanks!

FYI - this worked for me. I had to change it in my BENQ's menu. Changing down to DisplayPort 1.2 has fixed the problem for me.

I was kindly contacted by an apple support represenative today who called to ask for dianostic infromation they could send to the os engineers to help diganose the issue.

Seems apple do seem to be genuinely taking the issue seriuously. I've supplied a large system diagnostics dump so hopefully this will be sovlved in the not too distant future.

Good luck all!

The resolution on my 27" LG 4K monitor was also limited via an HDMI connection to my MacBook Pro when I upgraded to Big Sur. I had to switch to DisplayPort via a Belkin hub to be able to increase the resolution to 2560x1440, which is my preferred resolution for the second monitor. It works fine with the DisplayPort, with resolutions available up to 3840x2160; the maximum with the HDMI connection was 1920x1080, or 1080p.

Same problem here, very frustrating and hugely damaging to my productivity.

I have two identical external 28" 4k monitors, and two identical USB-C to DisplayPort cables. This was all working fine under 11.0.1, and it's all working fine through my Windows laptop, 4k60 on both externals.

About This Mac reports one of them as a 28" 4K and the other as a 30.5" 1080p for some bizarre reason. I assume that in fixing the issue with 5K LG monitors being reported as 4K, they broke this and didn't notice.

I've got a 16" 2019 Macbook Pro, and this is very frustrating. I'm currently downloading the first 11.2 beta, will see if that helps, if not, I'm going to have to downgrade to Catalyst until they sort it.

Thanks, Apple. xx

Same problem. External monitor is BenQ PD2700U which will only give a maximum resolution now of 1920x1080 and the dialogue screen to select the resolution has changed from horizontal thumbnails to a vertical list of 3 choices.

I would LOVE to know when you're going to fix this ... I presume all I can do in the meantime is roll back to the last backup before the upgrade.
