Update my iPad Pro to OS14

I cannot get the update to install, but there are zero error messages. I have an iPad Pro 9.7 wifi, 2017, running on 13.7 currently. I have sufficient GB, I turned off all VPN, etc......and after trying to do it manually, or using my old PC, running the current ITunes, again unsuccessfully, I contacted Apple Support and was firmly told I must just take it to an authorized dealer to do it. I am disabled, also currently very sick, have had to self quarantine for months anyway, and this is royally frustrating. Any suggestions? I did my research, tried everything that was suggested. It downloads but just will not install! Help! It will be next to impossible to get it in for someone else to do. And a dealer is not local.

Thank you for your speedy and helpful support. Unfortunately, I was forced to go to a Best Buy to have the system looked at, and I managed to squeeze this in with two medical appointments. I did not have an appointment with Best Buy, and I did go to the one Apple referred me to. Yet they were extremely understanding, and fit me in immediately, though they were backed up with similar appointments for over six hours straight. The supervisor said I looked like I was about to drop, true! Lol. And although it took over two hours for their consultants to finally do a factory reset, after running full diagnostics on the device as well as my battery, it was completed, and with very gracious specialists. I left with a finally updated iPad Pro, and some advice if I encounter certain future issues.

And all of this free of charge. I am not sure why, but they did this without any requests from me. I have to say I was impressed, and although today I can barely move, it was well worth the wait, and I think it helped that I was well armed with all the knowledge all of you gave me, and I thank you for that. It was obvious I had done my homework, and I gave this community the credit for that.......

They were not sure why it did not work at home, but at least they fixed it and with panache. Thank you again! ( we did wonder whether the fact that this one time I did not have data/cell on this model, but they couldn’t be sure. On that note, it is resolved. And without all of your most intelligent input it may not have been done at all yesterday.

Thank you, Michelle. I am once again trying to back up to my PC, and since I don’t want to interrupt it, I am pretty sure it is, updated not long ago, running on iTunes 12.__? I will make sure once it stops again for whatever reason. Lol. Oh, my PC also says my iPad software is up to date. And I am running on the most current version of Windows 10 on my PC.

I was wondering too if there is some unknown problem with my device or devices. I do appreciate your quick input, and am sorry for my overdue response. Personal issues interfered......

I have a strong feeling I may not be able to do this at home. I may as well, if so, schedule a dealer visit after a medical one in the closest area, again lol, and let them handle it unless you have any other ideas. Is my iTunes, on the PC, not what I need to do this? It is old, as up to date as I can get it, but it my not be enough.....

Oh, PS. I am computer illiterate! I really learn by default it seems. So sorry if I can’t explain this well enough.

P.S. one more thing. I found the tips Mr. Finch wrote very helpful. And gave me an education on all things pertaining to updating. So much so, I have saved it all to my files in case, God forbid!, I should need it again. And, additionally, things we should all know just in case. Since computer day one for me, not that long ago, I have learned that this forum is one of the best , and least threatening, forums to lean on should the occasion arise, and all have been nothing short of helpful, and all contributors have been , at the same time, exemplary.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities and making us aware of the problem. It sounds like you've done some really good troubleshooting on your own.

At this point, the steps we would recommend would be to create a backup of the data on your iPad, and then try to update or restore from Recovery Mode using iTunes on the computer. To clarify, which version of iTunes are you running? The reason we ask is that if you're using an older version of Windows, it may say that iTunes is up to date until you install any available Windows updates first.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If all of the security software and VPN networks have been disabled or removed on the PC and you're still unable to update iPadOS, it's possible the iPad may have a hardware issue that requires service.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please be sure to let us know!
