Cannot import CD into itunes

Running Mojave 10.14.6, when I try to import a CD into iTunes, I get the error:

'Error occurred while converting the file "xxxxxxx". An unknown error occurred (-54).'

It wasn't doing this before. I looked up error code 54 and it seems to relate to a fix whereby one organises the library. I tried this and it didn't help. The iTunes library itself plays fine. Any ideas please? Thanks.

My iTunes import works but I run iTunes 7.5 (yes, seven point 5 from year 2007). XLD has newer encoders, plus it encodes to more formats (e.g., FLAC which no version of Apple software has supported), plus you can encode to multiple formats at the same time. When I buy a CD I usually make one copy in mp3 for my computer and another copy in a lossless format to store on a backup drive in case something happens to the CD.

See if this helps:

If you see error -54 when you sync with iTunes

This can happen if a file on your computer or iOS device is locked.
