Try to do a Command-Option-P-R and do a Internet Recovery see if it work to update the latest version of MacOS Big Sur 11.1.

I have mac mini 2014 brick for not unable to updates. It will not complete any update and you have to do a PRAM reset 4 times to get the progress bar to complete.

Some of them have to use with Apple Configurator with 2 macs to get the DFU inorder for it to work. If your Mac are totally bricked. That goes the same to M1 Silicon Macs.

But give it the Command-Option-P-R a go. See if it works on your iMac. Get your iMac connect to a Wifi or Ethernet. And let it download the OS to your Mac.

Before you attempt this I advice to do a back up of the entire hard disk first. That way you will not have your lost your important data and files or documents.

Have read this by another person with similar issue as your. I have not tried it myself so . . this is unconfirmed to work.

Go to Apple Apps Store and look for Big Sur and download it from there. Strongly suggest doing a Time Machine Backup and 2 Bootable Clones to separate external drives Before attempting this method.

Please, if possible post back with progress / failures.
