I am sorry you are having printer problems. Experience has shown that many printer manufacturers are very slow to provide updated drivers. Drivers for some older printers are never provided. (Apparently, they prefer to sell new printers.) What we can do is to thoroughly check the printer web site for an updated driver that works. If one is not available, then we should ask when one will be released. If that doesn't work, if the Printer has the Air Print feature, that can be used and no driver will be needed. If not, then you can check the web site below where volunteers write drivers for older printers which are no longer supported, but which work with newer operating systems. It is worth checking out. Good luck.

The ML-1630 appears to use a special Samsung printer language. This makes it difficult to find/use alternative drivers. If nothing else works, you could perhaps carry out a few experiments with a universal Samsung macOS Catalina driver intended for another printer (for example, SL-M2020): https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/SS/Print_Common_SW/Samsung_Mac_10.15_Driver_V3.92.00.dmg . This may not work at all. A macOS Catalina driver would be 64-bit, and may therefore as such be compatible with macOS Big Sur as well. However, regarding the ML-1630, there is absolutely no guarantee that the driver can be installed, nor that it will recognise and allow the printer to print.

Hi,

Thank you for the report. Yes, as I mentioned, the printer language makes it difficult with a printer like the ML-1630.

In addition to an experiment with something like the SL-M2020 universal driver (link in my previous message), I guess that you have carried out tests with an old Mac OS X 10.7 ML-1630 driver https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/SS/ML-1630/ML-1630.zip (from the link provided by BDAqua above).

You may even want to experiment with the Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 for OS X package (https://support.apple.com/kb/DL905?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US).

Generally speaking, it appears to have been important to a use fresh downloads, and to begin by resetting the printing system, before every attempt to use new drivers with Big Sur.

To J Hedlund's comment:

JH's advice was already posted at the beginning of this exchange of postings and also on Apple site. None of it was working and OxoTHuk was having the same problem as mine. JH wrote as if the sites had solution. That's why I wrote it is waste of time. It simply does not work.

Indeed I will have to throw away a working printer. Luckily we have PC as well, so whenever I need to print I send it to my PS and deal with it for now. Waste of time is waste of time!
