Placing the cursor inside of a word

I would love a solution to the following:

Placing a cursor immediately after the first letter of a word so that I can delete a single letter and replace it with a lower case. Reliably, and quickly so that I can edit multiple pages worth to auto capitalized words.

I'm a windows user typically, so maybe its a control scheme difference. But, there are two things in combination that are single handedly ruining my experience on an iPad. I dictate text with my voice a lot. I have to restart the voice to text frequently, and EVERY SINGLE TIME I do the first word is capitalized. Even the middle of the sentence.

Combine that with the fact that I literally CAN'T select inside of a word, even though I following the silly instructions of a "long press in the middle." It doesn't work, and there is no new posts from the last year about it. Seriously, how hard is it to allow functionality to allow me to uncapitalize a word without manually retyping every word? This feels as complicated as on a typewriter.

You can place the cursor most anywhere.

Simply tap on (or near) where you wish to make an edit; the cursor will appear - as will the on-screen keyboard. Now, touch and hold the space-key on the keyboard; the keyboard will turn grey (the screen is now a trackpad). Without lifting your finger, whilst watching the on-screen cursor, slide your finger in the direction that you wish to move the cursor. When the cursor is placed where intended, lift your finger.

The description is far more difficult than the process - which will become second nature once practiced just a couple of times.

Actually, the trackpad feature of the iOS/iPadOS virtual software keyboard can be more easily invoked simply by holding two fingers anywhere atop the iOS/iPadOS virtual keyboard.

It will immediately turn all the keys gray and turn the entire keyboard into trackpad.

Leave your two fingers held down and slide those two fingers around to relocate the iOS/iPadOS text “I-beam” cursor.
