Too many pass codes

We bought my wife a new I phone 12 since her 7 had crapped out with the “no service” malfunction. While trying to set it up, a **** load of passcodes were sent. (How are you supposed to receive a passcode on a phone that’s not set up??? Apple kept trying to send the passcode to the correct number, but since the phone was not setup, it could not receive any text messages.)

so now i’m In passcode ****. Is there any way around this?? My wife is ready to just return the ****** thing and buy an Android.

thanks!

When you set up 2 factor authentication you had the option to create additional trusted numbers. If you didn’t do that set up the replacement phone without restoring the previous phone’s data; set it up as new, don’t log in to your Apple ID, transfer the SIM to the new phone so you can receive the authentication code. Then go and add additional trusted numbers.
