Usb c adapter not powering external dvd drive

Is anyone having trouble getting an adapter that makes an external DVD drive work?! I cannot afford the apple adapter or superdrive. I have a Samsung external dvd drive that worked with my previous MacBook Air, but now I need an adapter to usb c. I have bought a few good branded ones but none of them work! I have checked that it is not a problem with the dvd drive as it works with other computers. I just can't seem to get an affordable adapter that will power an external dvd drive!!!!

The agent ( through chat) stated that as long as I have an adapter it should. I have a Satechi USB C adapter, purchased through apple as well so I bought the drive. I have tried to use it but a notification states that I should connect it to a USB port as it needs power. I read through the discussions and someone got a better result when he upgraded to Monterey. I did that and it still is not working. Should I return it or is there a way for this to work?

MacBookAir I am trying to connect an external DVD drive to a new MacBookAir (Retina,13-Zoll,2020). The external drive commes with an usb cable. I use an USB-to-USB-c adapter to connect the external drive to the mac. With my MacBookPro this works fine, but it does not work with the MacBookAir. The external drive does receive some power from the mac, but maybe not enough. The external drive does not show up in finder or elsewhere on the MacBookPro. I already tried a different external drive, with the same outcome.

no power to portable DVD player. USB to USB-C This question was asked before on this community but was not answered properly. I'm trying to attach an Apple portable Disk drive to my new Mac Book Pro using a USB to USB-C adaptor. I'm getting the message USB Accessory Needs Power: Connect "Apple USB SuperDrive" to a USB port on this Mac. Impossible to do so directly as the connector from the disk drive is USB. What gives?
