Thank you for the suggestions. I tried creating a new network location when I had this problem last night, and it did not work.
This solution worked the last time I had a prolonged "self addressed IP address" problem, but not this past time:
"System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Sys Prefs>Network>highlight the Interface you're using>Advanced>TCP/IP>Configure IPv4: Using DHCP.
If using Wifi, instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
System Preferences>Network>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.
System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Apply."
The computer disconnects constantly. I will be browsing a page and as I attempt to move to a new page I will get the "not connected to internet" error and have to reselect my wireless network (which has not experienced any outage, as streaming has continued). This also occurs when the computer is woken up from sleep. I have to go select and connect to my wireless network. Often it reconnects easily. Other times it does not, but will miraculously work several hours later. I never had this problem with my 2015 MacBook, that I had until just last month when I got this one, and no other devices, Apple or not have this problem. So I am really baffled/annoyed.
Guess I will give apple support another try although I have found them increasingly useless.
