My Apple Watch won't charge

Hello! I have an Apple Watch series 2. A few months ago after an update my phone would no connect to my Apple Watch and vise versa. They just didn't recognize each other. I turned the watch off for a while and put it aside. I am coming back to try and fix it but now the watch won't charge. It shows the green lightning on there but after an hour of being on the charger there is no progress. I am wondering if there is anything to do to fix it? I really like my Apple Watch and want it to work again.
