My menu bar isn't working since I upgraded to Catalina. I particularly would like to be able to control the sound on my laptop from there - F10, F11, F12. Can you help?

There is a setting in Keyboard system preferences to use the function keys as function keys as opposed to the meta-functions. Look there to make sure it is not selected.
