Apple TV glitchy with Sony Bravia X950H

My Apple TV 4K worked perfectly with my ~9 year Sharp Aquos. But I just upgraded to a Sony Bravia and the Apple TV either takes a long time to wake the Sony (like 5-6 seconds) or doesn't wake it all. In addition, the audio only switches to external speakers (Sonos Arc via eArc HDMI) about 2/3 of the time. When I use the native Sony apps the eARC works all of the time. I feel like it is something in the sequencying from the Apple TV --> Sony that is glitchy and then fails to trigger the Sony to flip to external speakers.
