iphone 12 Pro Max 2 seconds charging delay

Been having this issue ever since the first day I received my brand new iphone 12 Pro Max. Using the USB C to Lightning cable that came with the package, and pairing it with Apple 20W USB-C power adapter, when I plug it in there's like a 2 seconds delay before my iphone recognizes it and vibrates and charging symbol appears. I'm now using iOS 14.3, same issue. It definitely takes longer than normal to recognize and start the charging. Checked charging port, it's clean no dust or debris. Tested plugging directly into the wall outlet, same issue. Used an Apple 29W charger brick, same issue. Tried shutting down and restarting my iphone 12 Pro Max, same issue. Tested my iphone 12 Pro Max with an Apple 5W charger brick and the charging starts instantly. Plugged in with my lightning cable in my car, and the charging was instantaneous. What could be causing this issue? is this a software issue?

I guess I wasn’t clear enough. The 20W USB-C adapter negotiates with the phone to determine the voltage and current that the phone needs; that takes a second or two. USB-A adapters have only one current and one voltage setting, so they don’t need to do that. But you have to allow time for the phone and the adapter to choose the right parameters if you are using a 20 Watt USB-C adapter.

Try charging the 12 using the charger that came with your iPhone 8. I’m willing to bet there will be no delay because it doesn’t need to negotiate the charging parameters.

If the 2 second delay really bothers you don’t use the 20 watt adapter, and there will be no delay.

UPDATE: I spoke to apple care and went to a apple care tech support in person.

The apple care support team told me that they find nothing wrong with my phone when they run analytics. They say everything is perfect when it comes to hardware and battery life. So they booked me a in person appointment with tech support to have hands on help.

The tech support found nothing wrong with my phone! HOWEVER, they explained to me that the new iPhone 12 Pro Max Is build differently than any other iPhone. It is build to protect itself so when you input your charger the phone takes a few seconds to detect if there is any moister on the charger.

still would like it to be faster though when it comes to detecting my charger!!!!

It's just iPhone 11 not Pro or Max, when I bought it came in thin package like 12 and 12 PRO does, and they said it's newest build of iPhone 11's so maybe they did that with 11's too, because i had to buy seperate adapter all I got is USB C to lighting port, but when I use cable from my old iPhone 7 it recognizes it instantly and then when I put charger that I have for 11 (it's 20w fast charging) it has 2 seconds delay but with regular USB it doesn't, so I think they built that system in 11's newest versions and I don't have any isuses with battery or charging everything is okay :) just that small delay and it doesn't bother me at all, I just want to know is that supposed to happen or not for 11's :D

I’ve got the same issues, however in addition to that, my phone will randomly stop charging altogether and I’ll have to unplug the cable and plug back in again. Using the USB-C lead that came with it and an 18w apple charger bought from the Apple store. This isn’t a hardware issue, as this is a replacement 12 mini I’ve got and the last one had the exact same issue. Cmon Apple, you can do better! And why won’t you just put your hands up and acknowledge all these issues with the (seemingly rushed out with poor testing) 12 series...

This comment is mainly for ppl that come looking as they had similar results but maybe not the exact same model iPhone. What I understand is that the USB-c-model fast charging blocks are what’s causing the delay, not any model phone. And the delayed response is not limited to jus the 11-12 models. I’ve had an Xs for 2 years now and never seen this delay until I bought the USB-c model fast charging block. It irks me to see ppl still calling this a “problem” or “issue” cuz it’s actually not. It really can’t even be called an inconvenience cuz if that 2 seconds impedes on ur life somehow, man ur prolly missing life having to move that fast. Really in stead of complaining about the delay, we prolly all should say “thank u Apple” for this delay. Cuz they took the time to incorporate a function that will choose, optimize and protect charging for these expensive phones we rely on. 🤙
