2015 Macbook Pro. Shutdown at approx 50% Battery

Hey gang,

I know I'm not the only one with this problem but I am looking for a surefire solution. In the last few weeks, my 2015 Macbook Pro has been shutting down "early". Today there was 51% power left on the battery after I plugged it in and restarted.

What is the issue here and is it fixable... or is this one of the first signs that I need to be considering a new computer? (I have been backing up files onto externals so I should be mostly good if it crashes).

I appreciate your time and any suggestions you have.

Stay healthy and Happy Holidays.

Check the battery condition by Option-clicking on the battery icon on the menubar. If the battery condition is not "Normal" or "Good", then the battery should be replaced. "Service Battery" means macOS has detected a hardware failure within the battery.

Also run the Apple Diagnostics to see if it detects any issues with the battery or charging system.

Try an SMC Reset.

If you have a 15" model, then see if your laptop qualifies for this Battery Recall program:

If this doesn't help, then you should have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine your laptop since you most likely have a hardware issue of some sort (most likely a bad battery, but it needs to be confirmed by Apple or an AASP).
