My HP LaserJet Pro M401a printer no longer works after I updated to macOS 11. I've tried uninstalling the driver and used the HP Easy Start app to reinstall it, but when I get to the "Add and Verify" step and click "Add Device…", I get the message "Cannot configure the device software" (see the screenshot below).
Does anyone know if there's a solution to this?

If this device if formally known as the HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401{n, dn, dne, dw} device, then it is supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint facility and you do not need downloaded HP software to drive it.
With your device powered, and networked (wired/wireless), visit System Preferences : Printers & Scanners, and right-click on the printers icon, choosing Reset printing system… . This will remove the device, and allow you to re-add it, but this time, selecting AirPrint as the driver, and not any HP driver. Once you have done that, print something.

Yeah, I was afraid of that, the M401a is not shown as supported in AirPrint. Just in case, what happens when you choose Auto Select, or Other… ?

Unfortunately, AirPrint doesn't appear to be available for this particular printer. These are the only available options in the printer menu:
With Auto Select, Generic PostScript Printer is selected. I'll just have to check again with Other.
