My objective to completely wipe the SSD on my MacBook, install a fresh version of High Sierra from a USB flash drive. I have created the High Sierra boot disk and every time I boot the machine using the alt command, selecting the USB drive, it leads to Blue Screen of Death. Why?

I took the slow route and installed a full version of High Sierra to a slow flash drive. It boots. Not ideal but unless somebody happens by and can tell you to do X and you get a solution, you could try doing it that way. You could then clone that installation back to your main drive while booted to the flash drive.

You are using a macOS version supported by your computer?
Yes. I've followed all the usual instructions. The inexplicable bit is the blue screen while booting using the usb installer?
