Macbook Air M1 - kernel panic

With a slightly higher CPU load (during the game), there are repeated restarts, pink stripes appear on the black screen. I cannot interpret the reports (they are identical, see example below). The problem does not occur with the same load on Macbook Air 2015 (Football Manager 2020 game running via Epic Launcher and Chrome). Big Sur 11.1.

Is there any update on this? Many users seem to have the same issue.

I have contacted apple support and not had any useful resolutions. MacBook M1 pro.

I am having the same issues. I bought MacBook Air M1 a few months ago, connected to a LG monitor via a hub. Only used Safari, viewer, and Word. Mac crashed 3 times in 2 months since new with the pink screens. After the third time I serviced my Mac at the Apple store in the Netherlands. They told me it was a hardware fault, and installed a new Touch ID and Logic board.

Now, 6 weeks later, it crashed again. The crash log is similar to the ones posted here. I made photo's of everything and I am going back to the Apple store again. Looking at the messages in this thread here, I think the LG monitor (or monitors in general) could be the problem.

Carson,

Thank you for posting the picture. That instant of pink color is very fleeting during the events I have experienced. You must’ve been quick with a screenshot or camera. Thanks for posting the picture. It looks like your computer is not attached to an external monitor in this picture. Was that the case? Almost everyone has described this problem as tied to using an external hub and/or monitor. Maybe it’s not just that.

thank you

Hi all, agree with foxiven, I replaced my screen and thought to have fixed the issue but didn’t.

Apple must take responsibility for these faulty item and explore further. When I contacted Apple support or attended the Genius Bar I was persuaded to think it was an external software issue but (after replacing the computer) the new laptop had another kernel panic attack...

Very disappointing.

I have this issue since using the external LG monitor (LG 27UL550-W 27 Inch UHD 4K) via the 2nd version Apple USB-C Thunderbolt Adapter to HDMI.

I did not have this issues before not using a monitor.

I am considering selling the AIR and the screen and getting an iMac 🙈.

One poster mentioned the issue stopped with switching to an ASUS monitor.

I have there same problem and same panic report text using an old Thunderbolt display with Apple TB --> C connector. Crashes twice per day. I did the recent OS update and the next morning my 6 month old Mac Book Air was in very bad shape. Many apps were freezing up and Finder was very slow. Two minutes to paste an image into a Word doc. I took it back and got a new one. It took 36 hours before this one crashed. I am avoiding the recent update for this computer in case someone finds that it exacerbates the M1 crash issue.

I have also tried mine with an old 23 inch Apple cinema display, using an adapter from mini display port to USB C. Interestingly, it did not crash with that monitor. I decided I would restore the machine as an experiment, and discovered I could not engage restore mode. The error message, which was a circle with an exclamation point, suggested the possibility that the firmware had become corrupted. I have a properly functioning Mac here, and use the configurator utility to flash the firmware and wipe out the drive. From there I reinstalled everything. Yes, a pain, but I wanted to see what would happen. It’s only been a day, but no problems so far.

I don't think that all MacBook Airs are messed up to the same extent. The first one that I had would show a small "leak" of white light along the top of the screen. It was a few mm long in the area of the bluetooth and battery symbols. This replacement doesn't show that. Still no new crashes since pulling the cord on the keyboard.........

Had mostly the same kernel panic, when I started the sleep mode, with Big Sur 11.4.

The Support should tell me not using the sleep mode anymore, because Big Sur doesn't support it fully without kernel panics.

Nice to see, that this bug is also still on the road without any fix.
