Device or Apple ID??

In Big Sur I am trying to unlock system security and preferences. But which PW is needed?? My Apple ID and my Macbook device ID are not accepted. any ideas please?

The login password to your Mac (not the password for your Apple ID). The following may help: If you can't unlock settings in System Preferences - Apple Support
