The seriel number on the back of ipad pro has been scratched out and the seriel number in the settings is for a different ipad

I bought a second hand iPad Pro and the serial number on the back has been scratched out. When I go on settings and check the serial number it comes up online as belonging to an iPad 4th generation. It’s definitely an iPad Pro, and it has all the features it’s supposed to have - 256gb memory, 4g, etc. Why would the serial number be scratched out, and why would the serial number in settings be for a different model?

Where online are you checking the serial number? If somewhere other than Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support

consider it as useless info.

That model number shows as a 10.5” iPad Pro, released in June 2017.
