I lose my external music library every time I restart my Mac. What gives?

Since upgrading to Big Sur, and seeing iTunes morph into Music, I lose the 350,000+ songs housed on an external hard drive. I have to reload into the Music library with every restart, which takes to days to settle in. The hard drive gives everyone permission to read and write the files. The media does not go to my Mac, but remains on the external drive. But the library just disappears and I have to start from scratch. I want my old iTunes back! What the heck is going on? Any help will welcomed with good vibes. Thank you.

Mac mini, macOS 11.1

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities Tettemer,

It sounds like when you open Music, the music library you expect to see isn't available, and you're having to re-add songs each time.

The following page offers information we think you'll find helpful in regard to the transition from iTunes to Music: What happened to iTunes?

The "Upgrade your iTunes Library" section may be particularly useful.

We hope this helps!
