I have a problem with a horizontal line on my display. Called Apple and advisor had me reload Big Sur 11.1. Now Time Machine isn't recognized by computer.

OK.
Does this fix it?
OK.

The TM icon disappeared from my desktop. it is not in finder. When I tried to back it up from the task bar, I got the message that the disk was not available. It was there and working this morning until I reloaded Big Sur later in the morning. I did that on the advice of an Apple advisor who thought the vertical red line on my display would be fixed if I reloaded.
OK. Sounds like your external dive or its cable is faulty.
Check Disk Utility. Does it appear there? If it does then the drive probably needs reformatting. But if Disk Utility can't even see it, it's not usable.
What do you mean by:
Time Machine isn't recognized by computer.
Does the drive just not mount? Or does it mount but cannot be opened in Finder? Or what?
No. It didn't.
It showed up...late! Thanks so much. You solved my problem.
