Why was I charged for the free 1 yr subscription? I just bought a new iPhone 12. I clicked the free trial. Confirmed my Apple is and was billed$8 and some change

The $8 and some change would not be for the one year subscription, as the regular monthly payment is $4.99/month (assuming USD). It would be a charge for something else.
- Investigate charges that you see on your bank, credit card, debit card, or mobile billing statement. When you see a charge from Apple, then that doesn’t have to be about Apple TV+ per se. If you see 'apple.com/bill' or an unfamiliar charge on your statement - Apple Support
