HomePod mini as M1 MacBook Pro speaker

I'm using a HomePod mini as a computer speaker, connecting via Airplay. It works ok for the most part, but there is latency when I use the keyboard volume controls and while streaming video, the audio will cut out for about 3 seconds every few minutes or so. This happens more frequently just after play is pressed, and it appears to happen less frequently the longer the video streams.

My question is: what can I do to remedy this?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sadly I don't think there is anything you can do yourself. HomePods sound great, but the latency is a real shame. Impossible to use with GarageBand or Logic for example. It is also annoying that stereo support is only given to Music and TV, not the whole Mac audio system. Best you can do is share your observations via Feedback - HomePod - Apple and hope Apple work to make it better.
