Can you turn off charging on MacBook Air when connected to a power source (like external monitor)?

I have seen lots of different answers to the age old question of whether or not a MacBook's (Pro or Air) battery would be damaged by leaving it plugged into a power source all the time. I personally have an LG UltraFine 4k external monitor which I plug my MacBook Air into - so it stays connected to a power source the vast majority of the time (so that I have 2 screens to work on).

I just bought a new MacBook Air M1. From my experience of 2 - 3 years with my prior 2018 MacBook Air 13 inch always being left plugged into the LG UltraFine 4k monitor (power supply), there was no negative effect on the MacBook Air's battery - just before replacing the machine, I tried running an intensive use of it (no video / photo editing or gaming though) unplugged and after 4 or 5 hours it still had close to 50% charge... And the "condition" of the battery was listed as normal.

With all the above said, I would like to know if there is a way to tell the MacBook Air not to charge it's battery when it is plugged into a power source (like the LG UltraFine 4K monitor) so that I can cause the MacBook Air to run on battery power while still using the 2nd monitor.

If there are battery issues with leaving the MacBook Air plugged in all the time then this would seem to be a reasonably simple solution for those of us who use 2nd monitors all the time.
