XBOX wireless controller connectivity issues on Apple TV

I have a new game controller (XBOX wireless controller model 1914) and although I can connect via Bluetooth to my Apple TV (TVOS version 14.3), the Apple TV does not respond to me clicking the controller buttons or moving the joysticks. I previously had a Nimbus or other game controller and it acted like another remote control. Also, I tried using the game controller on a game and it didn't work. Note, I also updated my game controller to the latest Microsoft firmware updates.

Is this controller not compatible with the Apple TV?
