HomePod stands

Does anyone currently use or has used HomePod stands? Is the HomePod designed to be seated on a hard table surface rather than be suspended? Do you know if this would affect the sound? Traditional hifi speakers are usually in tower format for flagship models or on speaker stands for bookshelf versions and are usually recommended placed in an area without much obstructions but then again most of them aren’t smart speakers with advanced sound processing algorithms like in the HomePod. I’m inclined to think that the bass would be impacted if distanced away from a wall rather than being placed on a hard surface since the woofer is upward firing.
