apple watch SE - problems setting up Family Sharing 2 new watches for my kids

Hello,

I have 2 new Watches SE and cannot get the Family Sharing set up correctly. I have the watch app on my iphone (with OS 14.3 already done), both apple watches are software updated with OS 7) when when I try to pair them - I get a message that I need a watch Series 4 or later and OS 12 etc...) From everything I can read, the SE watches should be able to work and all of my software is up to date. AGHH!

Hello anne-marie49,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

Based on what you mentioned, you have some trouble setting up Family Sharing. Your devices are not directly setup with Family Sharing. This is set up with Apple ID accounts. For help with setting it up, follow the instructions on this document: Set up Family Sharing.

If you are trying to manage an Apple Watch for a family member, this may involve some utilization of Family Sharing. However, "The person you set up Apple Watch for must be part of your Family Sharing group and have a cellular-capable Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 4 or later." - Set up a family member’s Apple Watch

If your Apple Watch SE is not cellular, it will not qualify for this set up.

Best wishes!
