Need help - iPhone 8 - need to reset it

We bought a used iPhone 8 for our daughter’s friend. She needed an 8 to connect her new Apple Watch (not ready for new / new phone yet).

The person we bought it from forgot to wipe the phone to prep it for the next user.

I am afraid if I enter the passcode wrong 10 times - when it “auto” wipes - that it will lock permanently and we can’t reset it for the new user to set up with her passcode and Apple ID.

Any ideas

iPhone 8

If the previous owner did not do this ➡️ What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support the phone is unusable. You need to contact them and ask them to follow the instructions in that link. The don’t need possession of the phone to do this.

You will need to contact the person you got it from in order for them to remove their Apple ID. Unless you can do so, this phone will be of no use to you or your daughter. No one here, nor Apple, can assist you with this.

If you are able to get a hold of them, provide them with this link so they can remove their ID:
