Messenger verification code daily text

I just joined the Apple community at Thanksgiving with my wife. We both got new iPhones and set them up. Since that time we have both received a daily text message sending us a messenger verification code that starts with G- then a string of numbers.

The only thing I can find online is that this issue was potentially related to Facebook. We didn’t have the Facebook app or the messenger app on our phones.

We started getting these codes the day we set up our Apple accounts so I don’t believe that our accounts have been hacked.

We use Total Wireless as our carrier but have for years with the same numbers and have never seen this before.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi there TexasAggie99,

We welcome you both to the Apple Communities family! And we can understand the concern of getting these messenger verification codes on a daily basis. We're happy to provide some insight into this for you. If you were not using Facebook Messenger when these texts started coming, this could be a phishing attempt you are experiencing. If this is the case, get the steps to resolve this here:

Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams

Feel free to reach back out if you have any questions.

Have a great day!
