I have an old iPad that I cannot re-activate. It keeps telling me to connect to iTunes to activate
but it will not allow me to get to iTunes. Any idea how I can get into it?

Telling you to connect to iTunes to activate is referring to iTunes on a computer. Not iTunes on the iPad. Connect the device to the computer with the latest version of iTunes. It should recognize the iPad in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions.
