Mail window

The mail window is suddenly too wide for the screen and I can't find a preference to adjust.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.2

can you not put your cursor on the edge of the window until you see a double ended arrow, then drag the window smaller?

mail preferences window now wider than screen I was creating a new mail signature, and when I was done, the preference windows suddenly got wider. The mail preferences window is now nearly twice the width of the screen. If I slowly drag the window over enough to see the lower right corner, I can not get the window to resize (tried with various optional keys with the mouse). The green button on the top bar is gray. Generally the green button will enlarge or return to normal the size of the window.

size of mail screen I clicked on something while mail was open and now the top tool bar with the red yellow and green buttons sits off the top of the screen and also the bottom bar with all my icons is out of site. I can't manually resize the screen. Would appreciate some help! Thanks
