iPad Air Very Slow
i have an iPad Air version MD786LL/B. It’s very very slow and it was just reset to factory setting.
how do I get this thing to go faster and the battery is terrible too.

That is about right.
A 32 GBs storage iPad starts out with approx 30 GBs, after internal drive formatting.
Minus approx. 6 GBs for iOS 12/12.5, leaves 24.GBs..
Minus 2-4 GBs for iOS iPadOS system operational reserve equals approx. between 20.-22 GBs of actual, usable data storage space.
So, you actually have ONLY 13-15 GBs left!
The battery is over 7-years old in that iPad, so it may not keep a charge for as long.
You could call and make an appointment with your nearest, “local” Apple Store location and see if that older iPad may qualify for a $99 battery replacement, which will end up being an actual device replacement for the $99 battery replacement fee.
If the $99 battery fee is too expensive for a 7-year old iPad, you could risk finding a “local’ non-Apple authorised, third party repair shop and inquire if they can do an actual iPad battery replacement for cheaper than Apple's cost.
