When accessing the printer/scanner through the Mac

Clicking on the scan option

Open scanner , it then says Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)

Printer /scanner is Epson workforce WF-3640

Mac OS 11.1 (20C69)

iMac Line (2012 and Later)

failed to open a connection to the scanner (-21345) OS 11.6 on MacBook Air 13 inch. HP OfficeJet Pro 8035 (Bonjour Secure Airprint). I was fine on Oct. 1 (Friday), but I noticed a request to make changes to print settings. Today (Oct. 4), I CANNOT open the scanner with Image Capture, PDF Scanner or the new Scan button on Printer (System Preferences, Printers & Scanners, Scan button). I get the error "failed to open a connection to the scanner (-21345)". Deleting and reinstalling the Printer driver does not fix the problem. My Mac is up to date. Any recommendations?
