Safari Bookmark order on MBP, Big Sur

From time to time (every couple of days) Safari is sorting my bookmarks alphabetically. This is driving me crazy because I arrange bookmarks according to their importance to me, NOT alphabetically. Am I doing this myself by pressing some crude key-combination? Or does Safari really want to sort alphabetically by design? If I cannot stop the magic I must select a different browser as default which is not what I want.

Searching the web for this problems, I found millions of pages telling me how to sort bookmarks alphabetically, but not a single one describing how to avoid automatic sort.

Can anybody help?

When you are Editing Bookmarks, If you ctrl-click on a folder, you can sort by name or address, but there is no shortcut set for that.

I’ve never had Safari rearrange the bookmarks. I rarely use anything but my Favorites, so I guess I wouldn’t see it rearrange the rest of the bookmarks, but my Bookmarks menu is definitely not alphabetical. I don’t know if there is even a way to tell it to sort them.

Maybe I should rephrase my question more specifically.

1- has nobody experienced before that Safari inadvertently sorted her/his bookmarks?

2- are you aware of keyboard shortcuts that sort bookmarks (and which I should avoid to trigger by accident)?
