Apple DVD player not ejecting DVD

I have an older Apple CD/DVD drive connected to my MacBook Air using an USB-C adapter. When I try inserting a DVD, it feels like there's already one in the drive, even though nothing shows up on my computer. Since there is no force-eject button or lights on the drive, I cannot tell if there is indeed a disc in there or if it's even working properly. I'm thinking of investing in a new DVD drive, but I still want to DVD that's in this drive, if there is indeed one in there. Any ideas? Thank you.

Hello Michel Willard1,

Thanks for your post. We'll be glad to provide tips to help you eject the media from the USB SuperDrive.

  • First, we suggest reviewing the USB SuperDrive User Guide.
  • Then scroll to page 2, and try the suggestions mentioned.
  • The quickest option is to press the Media Eject key if your keyboard has one.
  • If you continue to encounter a snag, then unplug anything that's connected to your Mac, click Restart from the  Menu, reconnect the USB SuperDrive, and locate it in Finder.

We trust these tips will get this sorted out for you.

All the best!
