Untethering recent coupling of iPhone and MBP

Hi

This morning when I turned on my midi-2015 MBP, there was a number in a red cricle for sys prefs indicating I needed to do something. That was fillilng out some things re Apple ID.

The only real change was add my contacts to iCloud, which I never use.

But suddenly now, when I answer my phone, my computer rings, and on my phone I can't just answer, I have to pick iPhone, speaker or my MBP.

What a hassle!!!

What exactly triggered that tethering?

How do I uncouple my phone and MBP? Do I go to Settings on my phone and delete the computer? Do I do something on my MBP?

Can I turn off 2-factor authentication?

I would greatly appreciate some help.

For the 2 Factor Authentication question.

From the article below. If it has been on longer than 2 weeks, you can't turn it off.

Can I turn off two-factor authentication after I’ve turned it on?

If you already use two-factor authentication, you can no longer turn it off. Certain features in the latest versions of iOS and macOS require this extra level of security, which is designed to protect your information. If you recently updated your account, however, you can unenroll for a period of two weeks. Just open your enrollment confirmation email and click the link to return to your previous security settings. Keep in mind, this makes your account less secure and means that you can't use features that require a higher level of security.

Apple ID -Two-factor authentication.

Current services from Apple that require 2FA include:

Apple Card

Apple Pay

Home Kit

Messages in iCloud

iCloud Keychain (in newer IOS/OS versions).
