mac restart issue - circle with line through

After upgrading to High Sierra, my mac pro has been having minor issues, but now it won’t start up at all and during attempts to start up, it sometimes shows a low battery signal even though it’s plugged in. After the latest attempt to start up, the screen showed a circle with a line through it. I read the below support page, but I was wondering whether it’s possible to lose data on my mac after following these steps..?

It's always possible to lose data which is why having a Time Machine back is really important.

That said, following the instructions at the link you provided should not affect your personal data at all - it only affects the operating system which is fine.

Shutdown the computer and disconnect any external drives. Connect to Charger and power up computer and immediately hold Shift Key. This is Are Mode and it will do a Repair Disk, clean cache files and only load Apple Software required to start the computer. It will load very slowly - Normal. It should present the Log In screen. Once in Let it run for 5 - 7 minutes then restart in Normal Mode.

Please, make clear if you please. This is a posting in High Sierra - OK But the User Profile Is showing MacBook Pro 13 ", macOS 11.0 which is Big Sur. Has the machine been wiped of Big Sur and reloaded High Sierra?
