How to stop text files from opening in Pages app?
Since it was introduced in iOS 11, I have been using the FILES app almost daily. I have a lot of notes stored as .TXT files on my iCloud drive which I open to simply view, not to edit. I would navigate through the FILES app, find the file, tap on it, and the file would open inside of the FILES app in a read-only (Quick Look) mode. This was great and exactly what I needed.
A few weeks ago I long-pressed on a text file to get the pop-up menu. I was looking for some other options at the time, but I tapped on share and eventually on the Pages app on the share sheet. The text file opened in pages (which at the time I meant to do). However, now every .TXT file is associated with and opens in pages. Instead of retaining the .TXT file format, it copies the text file and converts it to a pages document. I do not want this to be the default action.
Since then, I have been unable to find a permanent way to remove this file association with the Pages app. I want the Quick Look option to be the default for viewing .TXT files in the FILES app as it originally was. If I delete the Pages app from my iPhone, that works and the text files once again open with Quick Look. But as soon as the Pages app is reinstalled, the file association returns automatically and the text files once again open in Pages.
Is there anyway to permanently remove this file association?
I have looked at other txt editor apps. Installing one will allow me to perform the share steps again and change the file association to that app instead. After that, if I delete the text editor app, the file association returns to Pages. I just want it to use Quick Look as the default again and there does not seem to be any way to restore this functionality.
Thank you for any advice in this matter.
