Clean Install of Big Sur on iMac 21.5

I have prepared the bootable install USB drive for my iMac and when booting from it using the control/alt key I arrive at the screen allowing me to choose from the various options, disk utility etc. However as I only have a bluetooth Magic Mouse & Magic Keyboard I cannot move the cursor over he option I want to choose from the menu - bluetooth is not functioning. I have noticed that the wifi symbol in the menu bar is trying to connect but to no avail. Has anybody a solution for this or will I have to invest in a cabled mouse or trackpad?

BACKUP YOUR DATA BEFORE PROCEEDING!

Control has nothing to do with it.

You will need a wired keyboard to issue startup commands. Apple's wireless keyboard usually has a lightning port, which you can link with an iPhone lightning cable to the USB port of the Mac. Not all do, but many do. Any Windows keyboard that is USB that does not require specific drivers should work. I have run into a couple keyboards sold at K-Mart that don't work at all.

Alt/Option key will get you the startup manager.

The system restore is Command-R for the existing system. If you are careful with Disk Utility you can wipe the data partition and reinstall the operating system presently on the system

command-option-shift-R at startup will let you restore original system that shipped with your Mac, as long as you have wiped the entire hard drive, and have a hard wire or secure WiFi connection to the internet.

Note, "clean install" has at various times meant different things, and we are assuming you want to completely wipe your system and start with nothing but the operating system.

Firstly you are correct I want to wipe my system & start with nothing but the operating system, I have all the backups I need. The MagicKeyboard works for the startup manager but it is after choosing the USB drive that the trouble starts. I have tried plugging in my Magic Keyboard with a lightning cable from the start but once the utilities menu appears I have not found any key combinations which will move the cursor. I am loath to purchase a keyboard for this operation, the only idea I have is to get an Apple Magic Trackpad which apparently works with cable, bluetooth & wifi(?).
