side button

hi, when i double tap the side button on my iphone 12 it doesn’t open apple pay, it only turns my phone off

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 14

You probably aren't clicking in quick enough succession?

Try double clicking a little quicker, or if you have trouble you can try slowing the click requirement by adjusting the Click Speed in Settings > Accessibility > Side Button

I'm assuming that you have payment cards added to Apple Pay? and/or passes?

If you go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay, is the switch turned on for Double-Click Side Button?

i have clicked it as fast as possible and slowed down the speed but neither are working it just locks the screen
