Partition option in disk utility greyed out
I want to add this for anyone who is having a problem partitioning a new SSD drive for example the Samsung-T5 SSD Drive. If the partition option is greyed out within Macbook disk utility please follow these steps.
1) If you would like Windows and Mac file compatibility please select exFAT file format. For other specific Mac file formats please research the best option that suits your needs.
2) Determine if you Macbook is "Intel" or "PowerPC" by selecting the Apple icon and then "About this Mac"
3) If "Intel" Mac with Windows or Mac file compatibility, you will need to erase the drive and select FORMAT = "exFAT" and SCHEME = "GUID Partition Map".
4) If an older Mac "PowerPC" select SCHEME = "Apple Partition Map" and the FORMAT that suits.
5) Newer Macs will probably require FORMAT "APFS"
6) After the SSD has been erased into the new SCHEME the Disk Utility will then show the Partition option as available and you will be able to make changes, partitions etc as required.
I hope this helps someone looking for a solution to this issue. :)
