The erase button is not available. It is grayed out, so I can’t erase my iMac’s hard drive.

I am trying to erase the hard drive on my iMac that I am trading in; however, the erase button is not available. It is grayed out. How do I proceed from here?

FWIW, you have to be in Recovery Mode to erase an internal drive.
